Digital twin definitions for buildings White Paper released

Sphere’s Consortium has released the “Digital twin definitions for buildings – How to move digital twin environments to the AECOO sector” white paper. The consortium has been working several months in the elaboration of this document which aims to offer a standard framework for future development of Building Digital Twins, providing an environment for Smart, Connected Asset Systems (SCAS) throughout their entire life cycle.

This White Paper is mainly based on the work developed under WP2, as well as the effort of summarizing the discussions engaged from the beginning of the project in November from 2018. All them were crystalized on a first complete version during the General Meeting hold in Madrid this past November 2019 in Madrid.

Moreover, the document includes also Authors and Contributors beyond the SPHERE project itself. The purpose of this open collaborative work was twofold. Firstly, to enlarge the academic basis of the document, specially on the BIM and Manufacturing Digital Twins coming from Smart and Connected Product Systems. Secondly, to achieve a wider acceptance of the proposed Definitions across not only the AECOO sector, but beyond, thus connecting with sectors operating in both Upper and Down Scales of Buildings (respectively, Smart Cities and Appliances). On behalf of the consortium, I would like to extend a word of thanks to all these external contributors who have invested a huge amount of energy in this dossier.

Finally, this White Paper will guide our future steps in SPHERE project, by the appointment of a group of persons able to provide the necessary skills to represent a Building Digital Twin Management team to lead the SPHERE PaaS across all 4 demo sites proposed in the project. In doing so, the definitions, methodology and new roles will be tested and iterated, so more White Papers are expected to be developed along the 3 oncoming years of the project.
